Cervelo’s Caledonia Rival eTap AXS Disc Road Bike aims to provide a sublimely comfortable and rapid ride, no matter how poor the road surface or how long the route is.
The carbon frame has the same geometry as the higher-spec Caledonia-5, with slightly more relaxed angles than the S5 or R5. Cervelo still considers it part of their race bike stable though, so the carbon layup and stiff bottom bracket ensure that all watts reach the tarmac whilst still protecting the rider from the worst of any vibrations. Clearance for 34mm tyres also aids potential comfort levels and the top tube bento box mount gives an indication that the bike is capable of some very long rides where extra nutrition might be required. Hidden mudguard mounts further increase its potential utility and makes it an excellent all-conditions option.
SRAM’s 12-speed Rival eTap AXS groupset is fully wireless, so no fear of cable stretch or contamination affecting shifting, with gear changes actuated with a simple click of the large paddle. Innovative X-Range gearing gives a very wide range of gears without adding annoyingly large jumps and the Orbit Chain Management technology keeps the drivetrain running smoothly and quietly. Hydraulic disc brakes and the shallow DT Swiss E1850 32 Spline wheelset are ideal for year-round use, offering great performance and assured handling.
